Kevin Masaba
The People of Mathare

My name is Kevin Masaba.
I come from a small place in Mathare slum called Soko-Moko. I live there with my mum and the rest of our family. I am the first born in our family and I am fifteen years old. I started taking photos in the year 2003 with the help of Julius Mwelu who I had seen taking photos in the slum. That was how I got interested in photography. So from then on I have been in the Mwelu Foundation. I have benefited a lot because I have learned how to use a still camera, video camera and digital camera.
Thanks to Julius Mwelu for showing me and the rest of the team how to use a camera because it’s really hard here in Mathare slum to find a person to teach you this.
Here in Mathare slum we have so many youths that are very talented in many things but there is no-one to see that talent and to help make those dreams come true. So I would like thank again for this Foundation.
