The Mwelu Foundation

I am Anthony Mwelu.

I was born in Mathare slum in a place called Bondini. I go to Valley View Academy and I am in class five. I started photography with the help of Julius who was working hard on the Shootback project taking photos of our family and the daily life in Mathare slum. It was really nice for me to go around with him and to have him show me how to use a camera and how to take good photos. Two to three months later I was given my own point-and shoot camera and I started my own life as a photographer by using that camera.

I really thank God for this very big chance in life. And I thank my big brother Julius for showing the world the good things that are happening here in Kenya and in Mathare slum.
