My name is Simon Onyango, I was born 21 years ago and I was fortunate to have been brought up in the Mathare slum until when I was 18yrs. I started taking
photos barely after the Mwelu foundation was started. I learned so much of film skills through passion desire of always wanting to share my stories through
camera. I went through MEDEVA and a couple of workshop and film forums both at Mwelu Foundation and outside that have enabled me to be the type of video
editor and cameraperson that I am today. I have two awards of film under my name, namely World Bank Climate For Change 2011 and UNHABITAT I AM A CITY
CHANGER Campaign competition and two photo books (Slum Upgraded and Julius Mwelu).
My vision has always been to protect the upcoming generation of the slum children from negative perspective as portrayed by most and enlighten
them with skills through mentorship, because I believe that if they are mentored as I was by the Mwelu Foundation, then we will be have a generation of
