James Otieno
My name is James Otieno Onyango. I am responsible for maintenance of cameras and the organisation of photography workshops and exhibitions.
I am the third born in our family. We are five children – three girls and two boys. I live in Mathare slum with my Aunt since both my parents passed on when I was at a tender age of five. I joined the Mwelu Foundation in the year 2007. Since I joined the organisation I have learned so many things like photography, creative writing, film making, designing, editing and many other things. I am mostly interested in photography especially war photography.
I also like making films and editing. We capture pictures of positive and negative things in Mathare and write articles about our lives. Photography is about sending messages to the world – that’s what I believe. I have a blog (jamesotieno.wordpress.com) where I post some extra photos of my own.
