To earn a living many people operate small shops and stalls. Some sell fruit and vegetables. Some run small shops and barbers. Nearby rubbish dumps are scoured for objects of value which are then sold. For men, carrying stones and materials on a building site will earn about $2 per day. Some women find work as housemaids in the wealthy suburbs, also earning about $2 per day.
